I love lofts and owning a loft in New York City is high on my bucket list. But living in a loft has its pros and cons. The pros: high ceilings, large windows and exposed brick or concrete walls. It’s insanely cool and the natural light is the cherry on top. Cons: more wall space than you know what to do with, loud and echo-y acoustics, undefined “rooms” and limited storage.
However, after comparing the pros and cons of living in a loft, I think the pros are too good to ignore. And the cons can actually be diminished. For example, use plenty of textiles when you’re decorating as they soften the acoustic edges of the loft. It also helps to mute much of a space’s inherent sharpness.
The limited storage can be fixed just by using a little bit of creativity when storing your possessions. Nothing is impossible and don’t let the cons stop you from purchasing a loft. A loft is after all pretty bloody amazing!
A good loft is hard to come by, and even harder to design, so I’ve rounded up 10 of my all-time favorites to get you inspired. Check them out below!
